Because I love Ilia Beauty so much and I’ve never tried an Ilia product I didn’t like- (this is NOT an ad), I thought I’d show some love by shooting an all-Ilia makeup look. They’re proving that clean beauty can work just as well, if not better than the conventional stuff full of harmful chemicals.
Pretty much every dermatologist in the world will tell you that sunscreen is necessary to combat premature aging and skin cancer. But did you know that your sunscreen may be doing more harm than good?
I recently went through my second laparoscopic surgery to remove stage IV endometriosis, and as a result, I now have some pretty noticeable (albeit small) scars on my abdomen. I decided I didn’t want a constant reminder on my tummy of all the pain I’ve had to endure over the last 6+ years. I scoured the internet and asked my friends on social media what worked best for them and now I want to share that knowledge with everyone else. Whether your scars are from burns, accidents or surgery, here are some non-toxic options that can help fade them or even make them completely disappear!
Life gets busy, let’s face it; sometimes, between work, family, friends, the gym and trying to keep your head above water, it can be really easy to neglect your skin. Particularly the skin on your body. Admittedly, I’ve sometimes gone WEEKS without moisturizing (EEK)!! But I’ve learned that maintaining healthy skin should always be a priority because it’s the barrier between us and viruses, bacteria, and the toxic outside world...
To understand how special Vintner's Daughter Botanical Serum is, you first need to know the story of its founder April Gargiulo. While April is in fact a winemaker's daughter, her company's name, Vintner's Daughter, is actually named after her own daughter, with whom she was pregnant when she started to become conscious of the products and ingredients she was putting onto her body…
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably feeling really overwhelmed at the prospect of having to throw all your products away and start over entirely. It doesn’t need to be so drastic, and the process can be as gradual as you want it to be. Here are a few steps you can take that will help you make the switch over to non-toxic products seamlessly...
Parabens are a group of compounds used as preservatives in personal care products, cosmetics and even medicine like Advil. They help to prolong the shelf life of the products they’re contained in because they are antifungals and antimicrobials. The problem with parabens is that they are xenoestrogens, meaning they mimic estrogen in the body. Elevated estrogen in the body can lead to all kinds of health problems...
Until recently, I was never really a big skincare buff. Some of the claims seemed outlandish. I didn't really see how a product could reduce wrinkles, tighten skin, or reduce pores. Plus, with the industry being so oversaturated, it was next to impossible for the indecisive Gemini in me to make a choice. As a result, my skincare routine was lacking, to say the least. It wasn't until I started switching over to non-toxic makeup, that I considered looking into skincare as well; especially considering that I am now in my 30s, and beginning to notice the first signs of aging...
Manuka honey, which is made by bees who pollinate the Manuka bush (native to New Zealand) has been regarded as a superfood by many for years. You may have heard about Manuka’s many health benefits, namely aiding in digestion, boosting immunity, and soothing sore throats, but it can actually help with things like acne, eczema, and dermatitis as well.
It has been called the world's best moisturizer and is considered by many to be a nontoxic (and affordable) dupe for Creme de la Mer...
Five months ago, when I was faced with the harsh reality of what was really in my makeup products, I was devastated. That may seem like a strong word to use when talking about beauty products, but I’ve always used makeup as a way of expressing myself and I’m sure a lot of people can relate to that sentiment. Over the years, I had tried hundreds of different products through work, and just my own general fascination. I had finally reached a point where I had all my go-to products. But when I learned that many of these products contained things like parabens, talc and even lead...
A few weeks ago, my friend Neda asked me to do an interview on her blog Healthy with Nedi and I jumped at the opportunity. It occurred to me as I was writing, that it was the first time I had really put most of this information down on paper (so to speak). So, I wanted to share the interview here with you today. If you find this information valuable, chances are other people will too, so please share with your friends and loved ones! Knowledge is power.
Four months ago, I went to Sephora to buy some mascara. Being a makeup junkie, I had accumulated lots of points and was eligible for a free gift. I chose a Laura Mercier set with three products. When I got home, I looked at the ingredients. This wasn't something I did often, but nevertheless-- I noticed that in my new makeup set were some sketchy ingredients (parabens). At the time, I didn't know much about chemicals, but I had heard of parabens and knew to avoid them.
